Migration to SEPA will not lead to any significant changes for merchants that currently accept card payments.
Merchants’ banks will update their customers’ contracts in order to include the amendments resulting from the new European Payment Services Directive. Banks may also propose to their merchant customers that they accept cards from other networks within the SEPA area, in addition to the currently used “CB”, Visa and MasterCard cards.
Merchants whose terminals or unattended payment terminals already comply with EMV standards are technically ready to accept SEPA-compliant chip cards within the framework of their contracts with their banks. Merchants that have not already done so must bring their equipment into compliance with EMV standards.
Banks can provide all the information and assistance required regarding all changes ensuing from SEPA.
