Most euro area countries have published a national migration plan. Migration timetables are generally similar: launch of the SEPA credit transfer scheme in early 2008 and ulterior roll-out of the SEPA direct debit scheme. At the moment, the migration completion deadline, i.e. the date on which national payment instruments will be totally phased out, is rarely specified precisely. However, no country contemplates completing migration before end 2010.
The consistency of the various national migration plans is monitored at the European level. It is an important factor in the success of the SEPA project.
